இந்தியாவின் அரசியல் ரீதியான தோல்வியைக் (political failure) குறிக்கும் ஒரு பகுதியைப் படித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தபோது, காந்தியின் ஒரு பத்தி மேற்கோள் காட்டப்பட்டிருந்தது: புஷ் இரண்டாம் முறை பதவியேற்றுப் பேசிய சூழலில் இந்த மேற்கோள் பொருந்திவரும் என்றே நினைக்கிறேன். அவசரமாக மொழிபெயர்ப்பு செய்தால் தவறுகள் வருமென்பதால், 'The Doctrine of the Sword' என்ற காந்தியின் கட்டுரையிலிருந்து எடுக்கப்பட்ட அந்தப் பத்தியை, ஆங்கிலத்திலேயே கொடுக்கிறேன்:
"I do believe that when there is only a choice between cowardice and violence, I would advise violence... I would rather have India resort to arms in order to defend her honour than that she should in a cowardly manner become or remain a hapless victim to her own dishonour. But I helieve that non-violence is infinitely superior to violence, forgiveness more manly than punishment. க்ஷாமா வீரஸ்ய பூஷணம்... Non-violence is the law of our species as violence is the law of the brute. The spirit lies dormant in the brute and he knows no law but that of physical might. The dignity of man requires obedience to a higher law, to the strength of the spirit. The rishis who discovered the law of non-violence in the midst of violence, were greater geniuses than Newton. They were themselves greater warriors than Wellington. Having themselves known the use of arms, they realized their uselessness and taught a weary world that its salvation lay not through violence but through non-violence. Non-violence in its dynamic condition means conscious suffering. It does not mean meek submission to the will of the evildoer, but it means the putting of one's whole self against the will of the tyrant. Working under this law of our being, it is possible for a single individual to defy the whole might of an unjust empire, to save his honour, his religion, his soul and lay the foundation for that empire's fall or regeneration... And so I am not pleading for India to practise non-violence being conscious of her strength and power. I want India to recognize that she has a soul that cannot perish and that can rise triumphant above any physical weakness and defy the physical combination of a whole empire."

இதை அணுகுண்டு வெடித்த இந்தியாவிடம் ஒப்பிடாமல் அமேரிக்காவுடன் ஒப்பிடுவது ஆச்சரியமாய் இருக்கிறது.
மேலும் அமேரிக்காவிற்கு இது பொருத்தமான மேற்கோளாய் படவில்லை. அமெரிக்க பற்றி பேசும்போது வன்முறையின் பலத்தையோ, வலிமையின் பயன்பட்டையோ பற்றி பேசுவதை விட பயங்கரவாதத்தின் வெற்றியை பற்றி பேசுவதே பொருத்தமானதாய் இருக்கும்.
என்னதான் நாம் அணுகுண்டு வெடித்தாலும், பிற நாட்டு மக்களின் தலையில் அதைப் போட்டுச் சோதனை செய்யவில்லை என்பதால், நிலைமை அவ்வளவு மோசமில்லை என்று நினைக்கிறேன்!
பயங்கரவாதத்தின் வெற்றியைப்பற்றிப் பேசுவது என்றால்... யாருடைய பயங்கரவாதத்தைப் பற்றி? ;) நானும் யோசிக்கவேண்டிய கேள்வி.
அதைத்தான் சொல்ல வந்தேன். அணுகுண்டு தயாரித்து, அதை முன்வைத்து மேலாண்மையை காட்டுவதை வலிமையை முன் வைத்த அரசியலாய் சொன்னேன். அணுகுண்டை கொண்டுபோய் (அதை தவிர்த்திருக்க மிக எளிதாய் முடிந்திருக்கும், அது நிகழாமலேயேஅமேரிக்க வென்றிருக்கும் என்ற யதார்த்தத்தின் போதே, சோதனை செய்யும் முகமாய்) இன்னொரு நாட்டின் மீது எந்த எச்சரிக்கையும் தராமல் போடுவது பயங்கரவாத அர்சியல். நான் இந்தியா செய்வதை வலிமையின் அரசியலாகவும், அமேரிக்கா செய்வதை பயங்கரவாத அரசியலாகவும் எழுதினேன். விஷயம் என்னவெனில் பயங்கரவாதம் தொடர்ந்து வெற்றிகரமான வழிமுறையாய் திகழுவதுதான்.
